The beginning of our French/Swiss adventures

Our trip here went so smoothly that we wondered if it was all a dream. Memories of packing up the house in Charlottesville (including the predictable throwing many things in a box at the last minute) faded away as we arrived in Geneva with our 12 suitcases, 3 carry-ons, 2 computer bags, 2 strollers, and car seat. We fit fine in 2 vans, the drivers found the apartment complex without a problem, and the owner of the apartment was waiting for us with the keys and plenty of tips.

The complex where we live is definitely not up-scale, despite the very "upscale" rent we pay. It may take some time to adjust to living in such a large complex with its very urban, European look and feel. The apartment itself is spacious enough for us for a year and it is fully furnished, so we've settled right in.

Alex seemed to get what was going on, but was not at all happy when I went to work the day after arriving. We've spent lots of time carting groceries in the backpack and stroller and going to the park.

Our complex is quite international, with a large number of North Africans and Africans. This is a bedroom community of Geneva and I've read that 80% of town residents work there. The playground is absolutely international and all children seem to speak at least 2 languages.
