Decided to rent a car to take advantage of one of our first weekends here, despite the cold and rain. We first went to Nyon, just a few minutes from Geneva. It sits on the shores of Lac Leman (Lake Geneva) and has beautiful views over the lake and surrounding mountains. Afterwards we drove through Lausanne (a lovely big city clinging to the hillside climbing up from the lake), Vevey (another lovely lakeside city), the terraces of Lavaux, and on to Montreaux with its pleasant promenade along the waterfront.
On Sunday we drove to Annecy, a stunning medieval town less than an hour away. Despite the wind and cold, we had a few hours of sunshine and we spent all afternoon in the park on the lake. Baguettes certainly do taste better when eaten against such a stunning background.
