Luckily there are many good things in Geneva that are free.
If you buy a bus ticket from France where we live, you can take the ferry boats that criss-cross Lake Leman in Geneva for 2 hours. The rides only last 5-10 minutes, but they are very pleasant and the views are spectacular.

This weekend was the Geneva Music Festival. More than 10 simultaneous concerts during 3 days in the city centre. Although we tried to sample different music venues, it was hot, so we mostly parked ourselves in the shade in the park and listened to music from around the world.
The Euro 2008 soccer championship has also been a lot of fun.
And then there's always the lake and well-equipped parks.
And although the bus isn't free ($4.50 each way for a 5 mile/20 minute trip), it's nice to leave the driving to others and read the newspaper during the trip.
Or ride a tram and tell Alex it's a train...
And then have ice cream, ice cream and more ice cream.
