Chamonix was such a fun place that we went again--this time to the Aiguille du Midi which is 3,842 meters (12,605 feet) above sea level. The trip up was definitely exciting.
When we arrived, we discovered that there are no chairs or benches, too many stairs that no-one tells you about, and an oppressive lack of oxygen. Oops. Alex basically fell asleep in my arms as I desperately searched for a place for my parents to sit that didn't involve several flights of stairs. He slept for hours on the only bench I could find in the cafeteria.
Still, the sights were stunning! It truly felt like we were up in the clouds. We celebrated catching our breath (literally) with treats in Chamonix.
Tip: Despite this glowing review, do NOT go to a popular tourist attraction in Europe on a gloriously sunny mid-morning during August, even on a weekday--it was more of a hassle than I care to remember.
