Today almost seemed balmy, although it couldn't have been warmer than in the mid-40s. We went to Divonne-les-Bains for the Sunday market and then had a winter picnic on the plaza and Alex talked us into a helicopter ride on the Christmas carousel.
Afterwards we went ice-skating at the outdoor rink just in front of the lake. I hadn't skated in a couple of decades and it was Alex's first time. All in all, we did pretty well, thanks to the little "chair". In the beginning, Alex insisted on sitting on it while I pushed him around. Half an hour later, he was telling me to stay put while he went whizzing around the rink pushing it himself.
When we finally tired (and the smell of the crepes au fromage was too much to resist), we had a bite to eat and then walked down to the lake which was partially frozen.
This nice boy and his father taught Alex the art of fishing ice chunks out of a semi-frozen lake and then sliding them across the ice and delighting in the way they break into hundreds of tiny pieces that make a special tinkling sound as they radiate across the ice.
